How We Pick
The method behind every recommendation, written down so you can check it.
Last updated October 6, 2026
Every “best” list on the internet asks you to take its ranking on trust. This page is what we offer instead: the criteria we actually apply, what we will not claim, and where our information comes from. If a page here breaks one of these rules, it is a mistake and we want to hear about it.
What we assess
Card supplies are a category where the products are often a dollar apart and differ in ways that matter enormously or not at all. We assess five things, in this order:
- Fit. Does the product do the specific job at the specific size? A holder one thickness band too small damages the card it was bought to protect, and no other quality compensates for that.
- Published specification. Manufacturer figures — point bands, dimensions, material claims, UV percentages, box capacities — are checkable, and we quote them as theirs. Where a figure is not published, we say that instead of repeating a number from a forum.
- Compliance with the requirement. For anything grading-related, the grader’s own instructions are the specification. PSA’s shipping guide names a semi-rigid holder size and lists toploaders among the things not to use, and that settles several of our recommendations outright.
- Cost at the quantity you will actually buy. Unit cost at 25 and at 1,000 are different products economically, and our recommendations say which quantity they are about.
- Availability. A supply you cannot restock in two years is a supply that forces you to change brands mid-collection.
What we refuse to claim
- Hands-on testing we have not done. We do not run a laboratory, we have not stress-tested holders, and we will never write “in our testing” about something we did not test. Where our view comes from using a product, we say so plainly; where it comes from a published specification, we cite it.
- Ratings and scores. There are no star ratings, no scores out of ten and no aggregate ratings anywhere on this site, and none in our structured data either. A number we assigned would be an opinion wearing a measurement’s clothes.
- Reviews and testimonials. We publish none, because we have no verified customer reviews of our own to publish.
- Prices. No price appears anywhere on this site as a numeral. Supply prices move constantly and a printed number would be wrong within days, so every product links to the live Amazon listing instead.
- Numbers nobody publishes. Where the hobby circulates a figure that no manufacturer or grader actually publishes — slab dimensions being the clearest example — we show the conflicting reported figures and say they are reported.
Where our information comes from
Every page carries a sources list. Those sources are the grading companies’ own documentation, manufacturer product information, and published trade coverage, each linked so you can check it yourself. Where a figure is dated — grading fees in particular moved repeatedly through 2026 — we date it and tell you to confirm the current number at the source.
How the order is decided
The product that best fits the job goes first. Not the most expensive, not the one with the best commission, and not the one with the strongest brand. In this category the cheapest option is frequently the right one, and our lists say so when it is.
We currently cover 75 products. A product is included when we can identify it precisely — manufacturer, model, specification. Categories dominated by unidentifiable marketplace listings get an honest page saying so rather than a list we cannot stand behind.
How we are paid
By affiliate commission, through the Amazon Associates program. If you buy through a link here we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not affect which product we put first, and the full statement is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
If something here is wrong — a specification, a requirement, a product that has been discontinued — tell us at our contact page and we will correct it and note the change. Our full standards are in the editorial policy.
