The short answer

Sleeve everything you handle, bumper everything that travels

A sleeve stops the handling marks that accumulate every time a slab is picked up and put back — and a visibly scuffed case costs money at resale even when the card inside is untouched. A TPU bumper does the other job, which is absorbing the corner impact that cracks cases.

Graded cards arrive in a case that is advertised as protection, and it is — for the card. The case itself scratches, scuffs, yellows in light and cracks when dropped, and a case in visibly poor condition reduces what the slab fetches even though the grade is unchanged.

1. Best overall

GradedGuard PSA Slab Sleeves

GradedGuard · Scratch protection on a PSA slab

GNo product photo

A sleeve cut specifically to PSA slab dimensions. The slab protects the card; nothing protects the slab, and a scratched case is what drops a slab's resale appeal.

Why it takes this slot: Cut to PSA slab dimensions so the case does not slide inside the sleeve, which is what makes a sleeve work.

Fits
PSA slabs
Purpose
Protects the case from scratches, scuffs and handling wear
Format
Slip-on sleeve, sold in multipacks

What it does well

  • Precision fit means the slab does not slide inside the sleeve
  • Keeps the case presentable through repeated handling and shipping
  • Cheap relative to the slab it protects

Where it falls short

  • PSA-specific — confirm the fit before buying for BGS, CGC or SGC
  • A sleeve does not protect against impact

2. Best for travel

X PRO PSA Slab Protector

X PRO · Impact protection on a traveling slab

XPNo product photo

A TPU bumper rather than a sleeve. If slabs travel with you to shows, a bumper takes the corner hit that cracks a case.

Why it takes this slot: A TPU bumper absorbs corner impact. If slabs go to shows, this is the layer that matters.

Fits
PSA slabs
Material
TPU bumper guard
Pack size
12-pack

What it does well

  • Absorbs corner impact, which sleeves do not
  • Sold in counts that cover a show box

Where it falls short

  • Adds bulk, so fewer slabs per case
  • Color finishes are a matter of taste

3. Best for the ones you are not handling

BCW Graded Card Storage Box

BCW · Storing slabs you are not displaying

BNo product photo

A slotted cardboard box sized for slabs rather than raw cards. Most of a graded collection should live here, not on a wall.

Why it takes this slot: Slotted storage stops case-on-case scuffing without any per-slab cost at all.

Capacity
Roughly 30 graded slabs per the manufacturer
Fits
PSA, BGS, SGC, CSG and HGA slabs, plus BCW 4-screw holders
Material
Corrugated cardboard with slots

What it does well

  • Slots stop slab-on-slab scuffing
  • Takes mixed grading companies and screwdowns together
  • The cheapest way to store slabs properly

Where it falls short

  • Cardboard offers no moisture or impact protection
  • Thicker BGS cases eat the stated capacity

Zion Cases Slab Case

Zion Cases · Travel-ready slab storage with a lock

ZCNo product photo

Purpose-built slab cases in several sizes with locking options. It is the brand the hobby reaches for when slabs need to travel and be presentable on arrival.

Why it takes this slot: Purpose-cut interiors and locking options for slabs that leave the house regularly.

Sizes
X, XL, XL+ and 2-Row per the manufacturer
Locking
Integrated or titanium locking mechanisms on many models
Fits
PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC slabs

What it does well

  • Multiple capacities, so you buy for the collection you have
  • Locking options on most models
  • Interiors cut for slabs rather than generic foam

Where it falls short

  • Premium pricing against a cardboard slab box
  • Size names take a chart to decode before you buy

Fit is per grading company

A sleeve cut for PSA will not fit a BGS case properly — BGS slabs are the thickest of the four majors. Buy per grader for the slabs you actually own rather than assuming a universal fit, and check before buying a multipack.

What none of them do

None of these solve light. A sleeved slab in a sunny room is still a card in the sun. Light management is a placement decision — see how to display graded cards — and the only product-level answer is a case with a published UV figure.

Common questions

Do graded cards need sleeves?
The card does not; the case does. A slab sleeve prevents the handling scratches that make a case look tired, and a tired case sells for less even at the same grade.
Will PSA slab sleeves fit BGS or CGC cases?
Usually not. The majors use different case sizes and BGS is the thickest. Buy for the grader whose slabs you own.
Are TPU bumpers worth it?
If slabs travel, yes — they absorb corner impact, which is what actually cracks cases. For slabs that never move, a sleeve or a slotted box is enough.
Can I just use a team bag?
A standard team bag is not sized for a slab. Use a slab-specific sleeve or bag, or store slabs slotted in a box made for them.
