PSA Slab Dimensions

Nobody publishes these officially. Here is what is reported, and where the numbers conflict.

The short answer

Treat every slab dimension you read as reported, not official — including these

The grading companies do not publish case dimensions, so every figure in circulation is collector-reported, and the two reference sets in common use disagree with each other by more than an inch on some graders. Buy display and storage to fit the thickest case you own, and measure your own slabs if a figure has to be exact.

The figures below come from a 2026 slab-dimension reference and from the comparative matrix published alongside it. The two use different conventions and produce materially different numbers for the same cases, which is exactly the problem.

Reported slab dimensions, two sources
GraderReported set AReported set BReported weight
PSA2.53" x 3.38" x 0.22"4.20" x 3.12" x 0.25"1.4 oz
BGS3.19" x 5.20" x 0.31"4.80" x 3.25" x 0.35"2.1 oz
SGC3.25" x 5.30" x 0.28"4.75" x 3.30" x 0.30"2.0 oz
CGC2.62" x 3.50" x 0.24"4.75" x 3.30" x 0.25"1.6 oz

Set A and set B are both collector-reported and disagree. Neither is published by the grading company. Use them as an indication of relative size, not as a specification.

What is reliably true

  • BGS cases are the thickest of the four majors. Every source agrees on the ordering even where the numbers differ.
  • PSA cases are the thinnest, which is why they stack more densely and why PSA-sized storage is the most common.
  • SGC and CGC sit between the two, closer to BGS than to PSA on thickness.
  • Weights run roughly 1.4 oz to 2.1 oz per slab, which matters when you are hanging thirty-six of them on a wall.

How to buy without exact numbers

  1. Measure your own thickest slab with a ruler or calipers. Two minutes, and it is a measurement rather than a report.
  2. Buy display and storage to that figure, not to the most common case in your collection.
  3. Prefer products that state which graders they fit by name — several do, and that is worth more than a dimension.
  4. For sleeves, buy per grader. A PSA-cut sleeve does not fit a BGS case properly.
  5. Check return policies on anything bought in quantity before committing to a multipack.

1. Fits multiple grader sizes

BCW Graded Card Storage Box

BCW · Storing slabs you are not displaying

BNo product photo

A slotted cardboard box sized for slabs rather than raw cards. Most of a graded collection should live here, not on a wall.

Why it takes this slot: Rated for PSA, BGS, SGC, CSG and HGA cases plus four-screw holders, which sidesteps the dimension problem.

Capacity
Roughly 30 graded slabs per the manufacturer
Fits
PSA, BGS, SGC, CSG and HGA slabs, plus BCW 4-screw holders
Material
Corrugated cardboard with slots

What it does well

  • Slots stop slab-on-slab scuffing
  • Takes mixed grading companies and screwdowns together
  • The cheapest way to store slabs properly

Where it falls short

  • Cardboard offers no moisture or impact protection
  • Thicker BGS cases eat the stated capacity

2. Sized per model

Zion Cases Slab Case

Zion Cases · Travel-ready slab storage with a lock

ZCNo product photo

Purpose-built slab cases in several sizes with locking options. It is the brand the hobby reaches for when slabs need to travel and be presentable on arrival.

Why it takes this slot: Several published capacities, so you can buy to the collection rather than to a guessed dimension.

Sizes
X, XL, XL+ and 2-Row per the manufacturer
Locking
Integrated or titanium locking mechanisms on many models
Fits
PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC slabs

What it does well

  • Multiple capacities, so you buy for the collection you have
  • Locking options on most models
  • Interiors cut for slabs rather than generic foam

Where it falls short

  • Premium pricing against a cardboard slab box
  • Size names take a chart to decode before you buy

3. Cut for one grader on purpose

GradedGuard PSA Slab Sleeves

GradedGuard · Scratch protection on a PSA slab

GNo product photo

A sleeve cut specifically to PSA slab dimensions. The slab protects the card; nothing protects the slab, and a scratched case is what drops a slab's resale appeal.

Why it takes this slot: A sleeve only works if it is cut for the case it holds. PSA-specific rather than universal.

Fits
PSA slabs
Purpose
Protects the case from scratches, scuffs and handling wear
Format
Slip-on sleeve, sold in multipacks

What it does well

  • Precision fit means the slab does not slide inside the sleeve
  • Keeps the case presentable through repeated handling and shipping
  • Cheap relative to the slab it protects

Where it falls short

  • PSA-specific — confirm the fit before buying for BGS, CGC or SGC
  • A sleeve does not protect against impact

The practical consequences of all this show up in best graded card display cases and best slab storage boxes, where shelf spacing and slot width are the specifications that actually matter.

Common questions

What are the exact dimensions of a PSA slab?
PSA does not publish them. Collector-reported figures are in circulation and they disagree with each other — this page shows two sets side by side rather than presenting one as fact. Measure your own if you need an exact number.
Which grading company has the thickest slab?
BGS, consistently across every source. PSA is the thinnest, with SGC and CGC in between.
How much does a graded card weigh?
Collector-reported figures run roughly 1.4 oz for PSA up to 2.1 oz for BGS. Relevant mainly when wall-mounting a display.
Will a PSA-sized display fit other slabs?
Not reliably. Buy display and storage sized for the thickest case in your collection, which is usually BGS if you own any.
